Job Searches

The Law Library's Career Collection provides numerous resources to consult in the search for legal or law-related employment. The Collection contains books on writing resumes and cover letters, interviewing, networking, and job search strategies. These books can be checked out of the Law Library for twenty-one days. 

FindLaw Law Career Center 

Contents of the free web site include job search directories and salary charts. The FindLaw Lawyer Directory provides contact and biographical information for attorneys and law firms. You can browse or search the directory by location and legal issue. There is an option to search the directory by name of lawyer or firm.

Martindale.com

This web site provides free access to biographical and contact information for attorneys and law firms in the United States and in foreign countries. You can search for information about a particular lawyer, firm, corporate law department, or attorneys affiliated with a government agency. You can search for a listing of attorneys and/or law firms by location/area of practice.

LexisNexis and Westlaw databases are an excellent resource for information on lawyers and law firms, judges, state and federal government agencies, non-profit organizations, and companies. 

Several legal newspapers and magazines subscribed to by the Law Library frequently contain articles on job search strategies in addition to advertised positions. The Law Library subscribes to the following which may be of interest:

 

Bloomberg Law

Service offers primary legal materials and a citator (like Shepard's or Keycite).  Secondary sources include books and treatises from the ABA and Practising Law Institute.  BNA topical reports are now offered via Bloomberg Law as are BNA treatises, manuals, and practice portfolios.  There are various transactional law resources and access to court dockets and filings from courts that offer electonic filing, including those courts on PACER.  Click here to request a law school account.
